THE HUNGER GAMES - A 3,300 Year Old Film Review in Torah
A Serious Warning of Biblical Proportion (4/2/2012)
On March 24, 2012, Larry Taylor sent me a list of key words to search for in conjunction with the just released film THE HUNGER GAMES. Specifically, he requested that I search for Hunger, Games, Film, America, USA, Revolution, and Changes. Without having seen the film, and with no real idea of what it was about, I found a 966-letter matrix with a 7-letter axis term of HUNGER GAME (singular) at skip 5,252, and key words of REVOLUTION, CHANGE, USA at skip -1 and FILM at skip +1. The matrix was larger than what I like to publish, so I decided to see the film to learn if I could refine the matrix further. The matrix below, based on the same axis term, but expanded up 1 letter to read THE HUNGER GAME is just 552 letters, and it is a far superior description of the film.
THE HUNGER GAMES is a film that has many warnings about our possible fate. Thus the key words FILM and WARNING at skip +1 are of great interest. The action takes place in the nation of Panem, which was formed from a post-apocalyptic North America. Pan, of course, is Spanish for bread. Panem consists of a wealthy Capitol and twelve poorer surrounding Districts. As punishment or SIGN for a previous REBELLION against the Capitol, one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 from each district are selected by annual lottery to participate in the Hunger Games, an event in which the participants (or "tributes") must fight in an arena controlled by the Capitol until only one remains alive. The more bread that a family takes from the Government; the more chances that their children will be selected by the lottery. On the open text in the matrix is the complaint that THERE IS NO BREAD. Also on the matrix is FOR A SIGN AGAINST REBELLIOUS CHILDREN. An ELS of USA starts in FOR A SIGN AGAINST REBELLIOUS CHILDREN. At one point in the film someone points out that if nobody would watch the televised games that feed on a blood-lust similar to that which supported the gladiator fights in ancient Rome, the games would likely stop. But human nature being what it is, too many people are entertained by death and destruction to stop such an event. In the end, the real warnings here deal with what can happen to us if we are disarmed by an all powerful government who counts on our rebellion not against it, but rather against the basic morality given to us in the Bible.
Born around the year 110 BCE, Rabbi Hillel was once asked to summarize all of Torah while standing on one foot. His answer: "That which is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow. That is the whole Torah; the rest is the explanation; go and learn." So it is that a nation that lives by Torah will never support the likes of THE HUNGER GAMES.
STATISTICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF THE MATRIX. As per my standard protocol, no positive statistical significance is assigned to the axis term, here the lowest ELS of THE HUNGER GAME. Odds against a matrix this specific appearing by chance along were about 1,634,402,768 to 1. These odds presume that any of the 7 synonyms shown (after the first spreadsheet below) for REBELLIOUS, REBELLIOUS CHILDREN, or REVOLUTION would satisfy Larry Taylor's original inquiry about REVOLUTION. Odds against one of these terms appearing at skip +1 were about 110 to 1. However, the movie is about children being forced to fight to the death. There is only one reference to REBELLIOUS CHILDREN in Torah. Odds against its appearance on this matrix were about 552 to 1. If this had been the a-priori term sought, it would have altered odds against the matrix to about 9,762,165,253 to 1 (see the second spreadsheet below). As such it appears that we need to take this disturbing warning very seriously.
